Connect Yore to an assistant
Yore keeps sourced studies of places in their time: what one town was like in one decade. This connector lets an AI assistant search them and read any of them, so that it can answer from cited research instead of from memory.
- Address
- https://yorehistory.com/mcp
- Kind
- Model Context Protocol server, streamable HTTP
- Sign-in
- None. There is no account, key or setup on Yore’s side.
- What it can do
- Read only. It reads published place studies and cannot change anything, start a search, or reach anyone’s family research.
- Cost
- Free.
Set it up
- Claude. Open Settings, then Connectors, choose “Add custom connector”, and paste https://yorehistory.com/mcp. Leave the sign-in fields empty.
- ChatGPT. In Settings, open Apps and connectors, add a connector by address (developer mode), paste the same address, and choose no authentication.
- Anything else that speaks the protocol. Point it at the address above as a remote server over streamable HTTP. No headers are needed.
The menus in those apps change from time to time; the address and “no sign-in” are all any of them needs.

Things to ask
“What was Mauch Chunk, Pennsylvania like in the 1820s?”
The assistant calls get_place with place "mauch chunk" and decade 1820, and answers from the study: a company coal landing becoming a canal town, with the sources it rests on.
“Which places in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania has Yore researched?”
The assistant calls search_places with query "luzerne pennsylvania" and lists each place with the decades available.
“My great-grandmother grew up in Wilkes-Barre in the 1880s. What would her town have been like, and what was happening year by year?”
The assistant calls get_place for Wilkes-Barre in the 1880s and tells it from the work, faith, dangers and year-by-year sections, citing the page.
“What did people fear in Easton, Pennsylvania in the 1760s, and how do you know?”
The assistant calls get_place for Easton in the 1760s, quotes the "what people feared" section, and gives the numbered sources behind it.
What to expect, and what not to
- It knows only the places and decades Yore has researched so far, listed at yorehistory.com/places. For anything else it says so and names the nearest thing it has.
- Each study is written by Yore’s AI historian from the sources listed on it. Statements marked “inferred” are conclusions, not records.
- The studies are about places and times. There is nothing in them about any person, and the connector cannot look anyone up.
If something goes wrong
- The assistant cannot connect. Check that the address is exactly https://yorehistory.com/mcp, with https and no trailing path, and that no sign-in method is selected.
- “Yore has not researched that place.” Ask the assistant to search with fewer words (the town alone), or look at the list of places.
- A study says something wrong. Tell us which page through the contact page.
